PMG reviews mega infrastructure projects worth INR 63,858 crore in Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal

The Project Monitoring Group (PMG) under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) conducted an extensive review of key infrastructure projects in Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal. During the review, officials addressed 23 issues related to 19 major projects, with a total investment exceeding INR 63,858 crore, according to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry on Monday.

The review included five significant projects under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, focusing particularly on Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospitals in all three states. These hospitals aim to deliver critical healthcare services, such as specialized treatments, medicines, and hospitalization, to insured citizens and their families.

Additionally, projects overseen by the Ministries of Steel, Coal, Road Transport & Highways, Petroleum & Natural Gas, Railways, and Power were evaluated to remove bottlenecks and ensure smooth project execution. A key point of discussion was the Buxar Thermal Power Plant (1320 MW) in Bihar, with an estimated cost of INR 10,439.09 crore.

The meeting was chaired by Principal Economic Advisor Praveen Mahto and included participation from senior officials of central ministries, state governments, and project proponents. Mahto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the project monitoring framework and encouraged a proactive approach in addressing pending issues. He also emphasized the role of private stakeholders in using the PMG mechanism to expedite project implementation.
