The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the results for the Joint Entrance Examination Main for Paper 1 (BE/BTech) on Wednesday. Setting a new record, 56 candidates, including two females, achieved a perfect 100 NTA score. The qualifying percentile for the JEE (Advanced), the gateway to admission in the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), reached a five-year high. In the January session of JEE (Main), 23 candidates scored a perfect 100 NTA score, while in the April session, this number rose to 33 candidates.

Among the top scorers, 40 were from the general category, 10 from the OBC category, and six from the general-EWS category. However, no candidate from the SC and ST categories achieved a 100 NTA score this year. A total of 39 candidates were debarred from taking the JEE-Main for three years due to the use of unfair means during the exam.

The ranking process considers the best of the two NTA scores as per the existing policy. Telangana leads the state-wise rankings for the third consecutive year with 15 candidates in the top scorer list. Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh follow with seven candidates each at 100 percentile, while Delhi has six aspirants in the top scorer list.

Out of 14.1 lakh candidates, nearly 96% took the test for admissions to engineering and architecture programs in centrally-funded technical institutions and to qualify for JEE (Advanced). There are approximately 24,000 seats across National Institutes of Technology (NITs).

The exam was conducted in 13 languages across 571 centers in 319 cities, including 22 outside India.

The qualifying percentile for JEE (Advanced) saw significant increases across categories compared to previous years. For example, the general category’s minimum cut-off rose to 93.2 from 90.7 last year and 88.4 in 2022. Similar trends were observed in other categories as well.

This year, 2,50,284 candidates qualified for the JEE (Advanced), with Uttar Pradesh producing the highest number of successful candidates, followed by Maharashtra and Telangana. Registration for JEE (Advanced) is set to begin on April 27, with around 17,385 undergraduate seats available across the IITs.
