Prime Table Tennis is set to return for its second season after a successful first year, with the event scheduled to take place on April 27-28. Expanding its reach from the Thane District Table Tennis Association, the upcoming season will spotlight premier players from Maharashtra.

Scheduled at the prestigious Olympic Sports Centre in Palava City, the league has inked a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Maharashtra State Table Tennis Association, marking a significant leap towards advancing the sport’s popularity and accessibility to a wider audience.

Season 2 will showcase eight teams, comprising a total of 56 elite athletes, with each team fielding seven players. These players were carefully selected through a player auction held on November 5.

In the Marquee Men’s category, Deepit Patil, Chinmaya Somaiya, and Siddhesh Pande emerged as the top three acquisitions, setting the stage for fierce competition. Similarly, in the marquee women’s category, Shruti Amrute, Shreya Deshpande, and Samruddhi Kulkarni secured the highest bids, highlighting the escalating interest and investment in table tennis talent.

In addition to assembling formidable player lineups, each team has bolstered its ranks by appointing head coaches, assistant coaches, and managers, ensuring a well-rounded and comprehensive team structure.

Conceived by the TTC PALAVA Club, the league aspires to become the ‘Pride of Bharat’ within the next 2-3 years. With a steadfast vision for the future, Yatin Tipnis, Secretary of the Thane District Table Tennis Association and Secretary General of MSTTA, emphasizes the goal of promoting table tennis throughout the entire state.

By offering coaching in underserved areas and organizing regional tournaments, the league aims to establish a solid foundation for aspiring players, fostering growth and championing excellence.

“We are excited about the upcoming second season of Prime Table Tennis. We are confident that this season will surpass the first, especially with the inclusion of top players from Maharashtra. Audiences can expect even more thrilling matches, showcasing skill and exemplifying the sport’s prowess,” stated Yatin Tipnis, as per the release by the Maharashtra State Table Tennis Association.
