Opposing Women Empowerment is Opposing Our Cultural Heritage : Nalini-Kamalini
“Nari Shakti Vandan Bill Will Be Passed,” Express Confidence PadmaShri Nalini-Kamalini
“Modi Believes in Ground Reality, Not Cosmetic Display”
Varanasi: World-renowned Kathak duo Nalini Kamalini Asthana, popularly known as Padma Shri Nalini–Kamalini, addressed the media on Thursday at the BLW Officers’ Club Guest House in Varanasi, sharing their views on the Nari Shakti Vandan Bill.
During the interaction, they expressed strong support for the proposed legislation, describing it as a historic step toward enhancing women’s participation in decision-making processes. They emphasized that women in India today have witnessed unprecedented growth in awareness, confidence, and leadership capabilities. “We have complete faith that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this bill will be passed and will pave the way for empowering half of the nation’s population,” they said.
Highlighting the evolving role of women, Nalini–Kamalini noted that women are no longer confined to domestic spaces but have proven their excellence across diverse fields such as administration, education, arts, politics, and entrepreneurship. They added that women tend to approach tasks with greater sensitivity, discipline, and a long-term vision, contributing to stability and balance in society.
Referring to Indian cultural traditions, the duo underscored the concept of Ardhanarishvara, which symbolizes the intrinsic unity and complementarity of male and female energies. “In a culture that worships Ardhanarishvara, opposing efforts aimed at empowering women is, in essence, opposing our own cultural heritage,” they remarked.
Speaking on governance and policy initiatives, they cited the tenure of Narendra Modi as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, noting how initiatives like Direct Benefit Transfer significantly contributed to women’s financial empowerment. They pointed out that schemes such as Jan Dhan accounts, Ujjwala Yojana, and other welfare programs have ensured direct benefits to women, strengthening their economic independence.
Drawing a comparison between past and present governments, Nalini-Kamalini used a striking metaphor :“Earlier governments were like bouquets made from plucked flowers, which wither in a short time. The present government, however, focuses on sowing seeds that gradually grow into trees, benefiting generations to come while remaining rooted.” This, they explained, reflects a shift toward sustainable and long-term policymaking.
In a notable remark, they stated, “Modi does not believe in makeup, but in get-up,” clarifying that the current leadership prioritizes substance over superficial display and focuses on real, ground-level work rather than appearances.
The Padma Shri awardees called upon women across the country to remain aware of their rights and actively participate in nation-building. They stressed that true national progress is only possible when women move forward with strength and confidence.
