Manipur to have first National Sports University at Rs. 643.34 crore

Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Anurag Singh Thakur informed in parliament that a total sanctioned cost of Rs. 643.34 crore has been allocated to India’s first ever national-level sports university that will be set up in Manipur. In an oral response to a Parliament question on sports infrastructure facilities in North East Region, Anurag Singh Thakur highlighted the sports projects for North East region.

He further said that sports infrastructure in the North-eastern region has witnessed a remarkable transformation in the last nine years under the leadership of Prime Minister , Shri Narendra Modi. Our govt has shifted from ‘Look East Policy’ to ‘Act East Policy,’. The central govt has emphasised on sports infrastructure in the North-east region.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur highlighted the contribution of the North-East to sports, the Minister said that sportspersons hailing from the north east have brought laurels to the country especially women sportspersons like Mary Kom , Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain. He also hailed the contribution of sportspersons Bhaichung Bhutia and Shiva Thapa.

He informed in the parliament that the Ministry has approved 75 sports infrastructure projects at a combined sanctioned cost of Rs 520.60 crore.

He also remarked that all essential steps are being taken to support the NE States. He added 1000 Khelo India centres will be dedicated to the country this year itself , out of which 227 Khelo India Centres are being established in the North-east.

Since last few years, Central govt has paid significant attention to North East region and has brought many projects for the development. Many sports facilities have been set up there by the govt to fulfill the aspirations and requirements of the North East people.
